Nereid, one of Neptune's outermost and larger moons, stands out due to its highly eccentric orbit, making it unique among the moons in our solar system. Positioned at a considerable distance from Neptune, Nereid takes a full 360 Earth days to complete a single orbit around the planet.

Its appellation, Nereid, pays homage to the sea-nymphs of Greek mythology, the Nereids.
